iOS, Apple, Android and innovation

While Apple's only competitor with iOS is themselves, Android phones need to compete with a wide array of handsets all running the same OS. That leads to attempts to distinguish themselves. I see some very neat features on some phones that I hope make it to this side of the pond :).

It also seems that fragmentation is leading to innovation, although the latest iOS updates point to trying to catch up to Android instead of surpassing it. Kind of disappointing, but expected.

I eagerly wait for the next iOS version. Maybe the next innovation will come with freedom to, at least, install apps we develop into an iPhone without having to pay 99$. They could make that a market fee instead of a developing fee.
